Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2003 as part of the Skyridge expansion, this card represents one of the final sets produced by Wizards of the Coast before The Pokémon Company International assumed direct control of the trading card game. As the third and final installment of the e-Card Series, Skyridge was designed with the intention of utilizing the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral, which allowed players to scan dot-code strips on the cards to unlock data, mini-games, and Pokédex entries.

The Gengar artwork was illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita, a foundational artist in the franchise whose work has defined much of the aesthetic of early Pokémon cards. His depiction of Gengar captures the creature's signature mischievous and spectral nature through a vibrant, high-contrast style typical of the e-Card era. Upon its release, the set was noted for its lower print run compared to earlier expansions, which has contributed to the card's enduring status as a sought-after piece for collectors of the late-Wizards of the Coast era.
