Good Manners

Good Manners was released as part of the Gym Heroes expansion in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in North America in August 2000. This set was designed to shift the focus of the game toward the specific Pokémon used by Gym Leaders in the original Game Boy titles, emphasizing trainer-centric strategy. As an uncommon Trainer card, it was crafted to provide players with a situational advantage, requiring the player to reveal their hand to their opponent to draw cards.

The card’s illustration was created by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer and art director for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori’s work on Gym Heroes aimed to bridge the aesthetic of the video games with the card game’s collectible nature, often featuring trainers interacting directly with their Pokémon. Upon release, while it was not considered a centerpiece card compared to the powerful Holo Rares of the era, it remains a nostalgic example of the game’s early tactical design and Sugimori's signature minimalist style.
