Provenance

Where it came from

Released in May 2003 as part of the Skyridge expansion, this Hoothoot card represents the final set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Skyridge was designed to integrate with the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral, featuring unique dot-code strips on the left side of the card that allowed players to unlock specialized data, minigames, or Pokédex entries when scanned.

The card features artwork by illustrator Kyoko Umemoto, whose style during the e-Card era often leaned into soft, clean linework that complemented the technical nature of the set. As a common card, it served as a functional piece for collectors and players alike, characterized by the shift in card layout that distinguished the e-Series from its predecessors by emphasizing the scanning technology alongside the creature's aesthetic.
