Where it came from
The Infernape V card, designated SWSH252, was released in late 2022 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Sword & Shield Black Star Promos series. It was specifically distributed through the Infernape V Box, a specialty product that allowed collectors and players to guarantee the acquisition of this specific card alongside a larger-scale version and several booster packs. This release period was notable for the TCG's focus on the V and VMAX mechanics, which featured powerful, high-HP Pokémon capable of significant damage output.
The card features artwork by illustrator Nurikabe, known for their expressive and dynamic approach to Pokémon creature design. The illustration captures the fiery, agile nature of Infernape, a fan-favorite starter evolution from the Sinnoh region, utilizing the V-card design template that emphasizes bold, shimmering holographic borders. Like many promo cards in the Black Star series, it served as an accessible way for players to integrate a specific, competitively relevant creature into their decks during the latter half of the Sword & Shield era.
