Where it came from
Released in the 2019 Pokémon TCG expansion Team Up, the Ingo & Emmet card features the iconic Subway Bosses from the Unova region. The card was designed to highlight the dual nature of these characters, who serve as the managers of the Battle Subway in the Pokémon Black and White video games. Their inclusion in the set pays homage to the tag-team mechanics introduced in the Sun & Moon series, emphasizing their synchronized battling style and matching professional uniforms.
The artwork for this card was created by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. Sugimori sought to capture the stoic, focused demeanor of the brothers while maintaining the clean, minimalist aesthetic associated with their high-speed subway setting. Upon release, the card was well-received by fans of the Unova generation, who appreciated the stylistic nod to the specialized training environment of the Battle Subway.
