Where it came from
Iron Thorns is a Paradox Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games, representing a futuristic iteration of the Generation II Pokémon Tyranitar. This specific card, numbered 062/162, was released in the 2024 Scarlet & Violet—Temporal Forces expansion, which focused heavily on the mechanics and aesthetics of Ancient and Future Paradox Pokémon. The design leans into a sleek, metallic, and cybernetic aesthetic that contrasts with the organic, rocky origins of the original Tyranitar, emphasizing the high-tech, robotic nature associated with the Future Paradox classification.
The card was illustrated by a staff artist at Creatures Inc., consistent with the standardized visual language of the modern Pokémon Trading Card Game. As an Electric-type rare card within the set, its mechanics are designed to reflect the aggressive, defensive capabilities of the Iron Thorns character from the game's lore. It received attention from the competitive TCG community upon release for its utility within specific meta-game archetypes, solidifying its place as a functional piece of the Temporal Forces collection rather than solely a display curiosity.
