The card features the distinct, detailed illustration style common to the era's transition from the original Ken Sugimori aesthetic toward a more varied pool of freelance artists.

The card is notable for its place in a long-standing point of contention involving the Pokémon franchise and the illusionist Uri Geller. Geller objected to the likeness and psychic themes of the Kadabra character, leading to a long-standing legal dispute that resulted in the character being absent from the Trading Card Game for nearly two decades. Because of this, the Kadabra line was frequently skipped in card sets during the mid-2000s and 2010s, giving cards from this specific window a unique historical footnote as one of the last iterations of the character to be printed before the long hiatus.
