Where it came from
Kricketune 4/99 was released in the Next Destinies expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which hit shelves in early 2012. This set was notable for its integration of Pokémon from the Black and White video games, bridging the transition between generations of gameplay and aesthetic design. The card was designed to function as an uncommon grass-type entry, reflecting the character's signature musical theme as a cricket-like Pokémon.
The illustration for this card was provided by the artist Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer and conceptual artist for the franchise. Sugimori often uses clean, definitive lines and a neutral background style to emphasize the creature's anatomy and personality. Upon its release, the card was generally viewed by the community as a functional, accessible piece of the set's broader mechanical landscape, maintaining the consistency expected from standard expansion releases of that era.
