Provenance

Where it came from

The Magnemite card from the FireRed & LeafGreen expansion was released in 2004 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's efforts to revisit the Kanto region. This set was designed to align with the release of the eponymous Game Boy Advance video games, which served as remakes of the original Red and Green versions. By updating the aesthetics and mechanics to fit the modern era of play, the set provided a bridge for collectors to reconnect with early generation Pokémon.

The artwork for this particular card was produced by illustrator Atsuko Nishida, one of the foundational artists of the Pokémon franchise. Her design captures the metallic, industrial aesthetic of Magnemite through a clean, focused composition consistent with the common-rarity cards of the EX-era sets. The release was well-received by players and collectors for its nostalgic appeal and its role in reintroducing classic creatures into the evolving competitive landscape of the trading card game.
