Where it came from
The Magnezone card from the Forbidden Light set was released in May 2018 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Sun & Moon series. This expansion drew its primary inspiration from the legendary Pokémon Necrozma and the lore surrounding the Ultra Recon Squad, capturing the aesthetic of the Ultra Space dimension. Magnezone was featured here to support the set's focus on powerful stage-two evolution lines and the meta-game's ongoing emphasis on energy acceleration.
The card's design features artwork by artist Kouki Saitou, who is a staple within the Pokémon TCG community for his dynamic, action-oriented character portraits. Saitou opted for a bold, metallic rendering of Magnezone that emphasizes its industrial, technological nature while maintaining the clean, vibrant look characteristic of the Sun & Moon era. Upon its release, players recognized the card for its 'Magnetic Circuit' ability, which allowed for the efficient attachment of electric energy and secured its status as a functional staple in competitive decks of that period.
