Provenance

Where it came from

Mars, numbered 128/156, debuted as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism expansion, released internationally in early 2018. This set was notable for introducing the Prism Star card mechanic and focusing on the Sinnoh region, drawing inspiration from the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl video games. The card depicts Mars, a high-ranking member of the villainous Team Galactic, who served as a recurring antagonist and commander during the events of the Sinnoh story arc.

The card was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. His work on this card maintains his signature clean, minimalist aesthetic, emphasizing the character's distinct red hair and Team Galactic uniform. Within the competitive and casual community, this card is valued primarily for its utility as a Trainer card, specifically its ability to disrupt an opponent's hand while providing draw support, making it a functional piece of the Ultra Prism meta-game during its tenure in standard play.
