Where it came from
Released in August 2015 as part of the Ancient Origins expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, this Metagross card represents a later addition to the XY series. The set focused on the introduction of ancient traits and the synergy between ancient powers and modern technological Pokémon, reflecting the game's ongoing effort to balance the competitive meta during the sixth generation of the franchise.
The card features artwork by illustrator 5ban Graphics, a prolific studio known for their sleek, high-definition digital renderings of Pokémon that became a staple of the XY era. Their design for this Metagross emphasizes a polished, metallic aesthetic that aligns with the character's Steel-type designation, aiming to convey its status as a pseudo-legendary powerhouse through clean lines and dynamic, reflective lighting effects.
