Metang

Released in May 2010 as part of the HS—Unleashed expansion, this card represents the second installment of the HeartGold & SoulSilver series. The set was designed to integrate elements from the Johto region video games, with a focus on introducing Prime cards and emphasizing the interaction between the player and their deck. As an Uncommon card, Metang serves as an evolution bridge within the Steel and Psychic type archetypes of the era, reflecting the mechanical transition toward more strategic, status-effect-oriented play styles popular during the late 2000s.

The artwork for this particular card was created by artist match, whose distinct digital illustration style defined many entries in the HGSS era. The design captures Metang in a dynamic, hovering pose that emphasizes its dual-type Steel and Psychic nature, consistent with the set's aesthetic goal of showcasing Pokémon in environments that evoke their specific elemental affinities. Upon its release, the card was widely utilized by players as a functional evolution component for competitive decks relying on Metang’s ability to evolve from Beldum, though it remained a standard staple rather than a high-value chase card.
