Where it came from
The Metang card, numbered 23 in the Nintendo Black Star Promos series, was released in the mid-2000s as part of the promotional support for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. These promotional cards were typically distributed through specific events, such as tournaments or retail partnerships, intended to bolster interest in the current generation of Pokémon titles, specifically those introduced in the Hoenn region games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
The card features artwork by illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita, a staple artist in the Pokémon TCG who has been contributing designs since the base set. His work on this card emphasizes the metallic, sturdy nature of Metang, utilizing a clean, digital aesthetic that was characteristic of the era's promotional sets. Like many cards in the Black Star Promo series, it served as a collector's bridge for players to acquire specific stage-one evolutions that were not always available in standard booster packs at the time.
