Provenance

Where it came from

Released in early 2000, Base Set 2 was designed by Wizards of the Coast as a way to keep core Pokémon trading card game content available to players after the initial Base Set and Jungle expansions went out of print. The set acted as a curated compilation, reprinting popular cards from these earlier releases to ensure newer players had access to staple creatures and mechanical basics of the game.

The Pidgeot card featured in this set retains the original artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi, which debuted in the initial Jungle expansion. Kinebuchi's style is characterized by the use of distinct, bold linework and vibrant digital gradients, a visual approach that defined the aesthetic of the early Wizards of the Coast era. As a Rare Holo in the Base Set 2 lineup, the card maintains the iconic swirling holographic foil pattern that made the original printing a hallmark of the Kanto region collection.
