Where it came from
The 2015 McDonald's Pokémon collection was released as a promotional tie-in, distributed within Happy Meals across various international markets. This specific Pikachu card, numbered 6/12, was part of a twelve-card set designed to encourage younger audiences to engage with the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set utilized existing card mechanics, pairing familiar faces from the franchise with accessible gameplay features suitable for new players.
The artwork for this particular Pikachu card draws upon established character illustrations from the period, adhering to the iconic, vibrant aesthetic maintained by The Pokémon Company. While these promotional cards are often viewed as entry-level collectibles compared to expansion sets, they are highly regarded for their specific branding and the nostalgia associated with fast-food tie-ins. The series received a warm reception from collectors who enjoy the intersection of pop culture memorabilia and TCG history.
