Where it came from
The Pikachu ex card from the 30th Celebration collection was released to commemorate three decades of the Pokémon franchise. As a Special Illustration Rare, this card serves as a centerpiece for the set, designed to reflect the longevity and cultural impact of Pikachu as the series' mascot. It continues the long-standing tradition of 'ex' mechanics in the trading card game, which historically feature powerful evolved forms or variants with increased health and high-damage attacks.
The artistic direction for this card emphasizes the whimsical and vibrant aesthetic associated with the anniversary festivities. Illustrators for these celebratory sets often pull from decades of visual history, aiming to balance nostalgic appeal for long-time players with the polished, modern finish of contemporary card design. The card was received by collectors as a significant milestone, valued for its intricate foil work and its status as a high-rarity chase card within the collection.
