Provenance

Where it came from

Piloswine (H22/144) was released as part of the Skyridge expansion in 2003, the final set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game produced by Wizards of the Coast. As a core component of the e-Card Series, the card features the proprietary dot-code strip on the bottom border, designed to be scanned by the Nintendo e-Reader to unlock minigames or Pokédex data. This era marked a transitional period for the franchise as the license prepared to move back to The Pokémon Company International.

The card’s illustration was created by Mitsuhiro Arita, a foundational artist for the Pokémon TCG. Arita’s work on this card leans into the rugged, icy nature of the Swine Pokémon, utilizing the stark holographic pattern common to the Skyridge set to emphasize the creature's cold environment. While the set is now highly sought after for its relatively limited print run and innovative e-Reader technology, it was received as a niche technical experiment at the time of its debut.
