Prime Catcher was released as part of the Scarlet & Violet—Prismatic Evolutions expansion, continuing the modern reintroduction of the ACE SPEC card mechanic. Originally appearing during the Black & White era, ACE SPEC cards are powerful Trainer cards designed to be restricted to one copy per deck to ensure a balanced competitive environment. This specific iteration features the characteristic magenta foil treatment and unique layout intended to distinguish these cards from standard Trainer cards within the player's deck.

The card was illustrated by Toyste Beach, an artist known for clean, dynamic compositions that highlight the utility and impact of Trainer cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
