Professor Oak's Setup

Professor Oak's Setup was released in the 2019 Pokémon TCG expansion Cosmic Eclipse, which served as the final main set of the Sun & Moon era. The card features the iconic Professor Oak, the franchise's original mentor figure, captured in a vibrant, full-art illustration that draws on the nostalgic aesthetic of the early Kanto-region games. Designed to reflect the collaborative nature of the late Sun & Moon format, the card allows players to search their deck for basic Pokémon, grounding its mechanics in the series' core theme of gathering a team of partners.

The artwork for this card was rendered by Ken Sugimori, whose work has defined the visual language of Pokémon since the series' inception. By utilizing a full-art style, the card elevates a traditional supporter utility to a collector's piece, focusing on the character's seasoned, intellectual presence. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its tactical efficiency and by collectors for its role as a high-quality tribute to a foundational character who has remained central to the lore for decades.
