Professor Sycamore

Professor Sycamore was introduced as a pivotal Trainer card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the XY expansion series, specifically appearing in the BREAKpoint set released in 2016. This card represents the Kalos region's primary researcher, serving as a mechanical staple that allowed players to discard their hand and draw seven new cards. It was designed to facilitate aggressive deck cycling and remains one of the most recognizable supporters in the modern era of the game.

The card’s illustration features the work of artist Megumi Mizutani, who captured the character’s high-energy personality and scholarly focus. By emphasizing utility and rapid card turnover, the card became a centerpiece of competitive play throughout the XY and Sun & Moon eras. Its design prioritized clear, efficient gameplay, and it was widely received as an essential component for nearly every top-tier deck during its time in the standard format.
