Where it came from
The Scyther card, numbered SV1/94, was released in the Hidden Fates expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted globally in 2019. This set is particularly notable for its 'Shiny Vault' sub-set, a collection of cards featuring Shiny Pokémon—alternatively colored versions of creatures that are famously difficult to encounter in the core video games. The inclusion of these cards was a strategic effort by The Pokémon Company to celebrate the visual diversity of the series, drawing heavily on the aesthetic of the Alola region and the long-standing fan desire for collectible, high-rarity variants of classic Generation I Pokémon like Scyther.
The visual design of the Shiny Scyther deviates from the standard green palette, opting for a distinct light brown or mustard hue that mirrors its in-game Shiny appearance. The card utilizes the specialized holofoil patterns and textured surface characteristic of the Shiny Vault series, distinguishing it from traditional 'Rare' cards in standard sets. Upon its release, the card was received warmly by collectors for its clean, modern layout and the technical achievement of its holographic treatment, which solidified its status as a sought-after piece within the broader Hidden Fates ecosystem.
