Where it came from
The Scyther card numbered 004/197 was released as part of the Obsidian Flames expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in August 2023. As a Scarlet & Violet series set, it focuses on the Terastal phenomenon, though this specific common card represents a standard grass-type depiction of the Mantis Pokémon. It was produced by The Pokémon Company International as a staple of the set's base rarity tier, intended to fill out the competitive and collection-focused roster of the expansion.
The card features artwork by illustrator Shigenori Negishi, who has contributed numerous illustrations to the game over the years. The design captures Scyther in a characteristically alert, mid-action pose that emphasizes its blades, adhering to the classic visual identity of the creature while maintaining the modern, clean aesthetic consistent with the Scarlet & Violet era of the card game. Like most common-rarity cards, its design serves the functional purpose of game balance while providing accessible art for collectors.
