Where it came from
Sigilyph 55/122 was released in the XY—BREAKpoint expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which launched in early 2016. This set introduced the BREAK mechanic, where evolution cards were printed horizontally to stack on top of base creatures, representing a shift in competitive play dynamics. The card itself occupies a standard role within the set as an uncommon psychic-type Pokémon, intended to fill out the roster of obtainable creatures from the Unova region for players and collectors alike.
The card features artwork by illustrator Mizue, who has contributed extensively to the TCG since the HeartGold & SoulSilver era. Mizue is known for a clean, digital aesthetic that often places Pokémon in vibrant, stylized environments. For this specific depiction of Sigilyph, the focus remains on the creature's ancient, totem-like design, emphasizing its geometric patterns and mysterious, relic-inspired appearance which aligns with its established lore as a guardian of forgotten cities.
