Sonia

Sonia, featured as card number 167/192 in the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion Rebel Clash, was released in 2020. This card depicts a prominent character from the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games, where she serves as an assistant to Professor Magnolia and a researcher investigating the lore of the Galar region. The card is designed to provide utility in the game, allowing players to search their deck for up to two Pokémon or two basic Energy cards, reflecting her role as a guide and researcher in the digital source material.

The card's illustration was crafted by artist kirisAki, who captures Sonia in a pose consistent with her characteristic vibrant, academic aesthetic from the games. Within the Rebel Clash set, which focused heavily on the mechanics and characters introduced in Generation VIII, the uncommon rarity status made it a highly functional and accessible card for competitive players during the Sword and Shield era. It remains a notable example of how character-driven trainer cards serve to bridge the gap between the narrative of the video games and the strategic depth of the card game.
