Spearow

The Spearow card from the FireRed & LeafGreen expansion was released in 2004 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's efforts to integrate the aesthetics of the Game Boy Advance remakes. This set marked a transition in design philosophy, featuring updated card templates that reflected the more modern, streamlined look of the third generation of Pokémon titles. The artwork for this specific card was rendered by Atsuko Nishida, an influential illustrator known for her work on many foundational Pokémon designs. Her approach captured the creature in a dynamic, mid-flight pose that emphasized its aggressive nature as a typical early-game encounter.

Upon its release, the card was widely distributed as a common rarity, intended to populate the decks of players engaging with the new competitive mechanics introduced in the EX series. It was received as a standard utility card, valued primarily for its functional role in gameplay rather than as a collectible rarity. The design adheres to the thematic consistency of the FireRed & LeafGreen era, which leaned into a clean, minimalist style that allowed the card's data and illustration to remain highly readable during fast-paced matches.
