What it does
Does 20 damage plus 20 more damage for each basic Energy attached to Swampert ex but not used to pay for this attack's Energy cost. You can't add more than 80 damage in this way.
Choose 1 of your opponent's Pokémon. This attack does 40 damage to that Pokémon. After doing damage, flip a coin. If heads, your opponent discards an Energy card, if any, attached to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)
When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Where it came from
Released in 2004 as part of the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua expansion, this card represents a distinct era in the Pokémon Trading Card Game where the mechanics focused on dual-type ownership for Pokémon aligned with the villainous teams. Swampert ex was designed as the set's secret chase card, serving as a powerful focal point for the set's unique dual-type, multi-alignment themes. The artwork follows the illustrative style characteristic of the early EX era, emphasizing the creature's bulky, formidable presence in a high-contrast, holographic finish.
The card was illustrated by Ryo Ueda, whose contribution to the early 2000s era of the game helped define the visual standard for the EX rarity tier. By placing Swampert in a dynamic, action-oriented stance, Ueda aimed to highlight the evolution's strength within the game's competitive meta at the time. It was well-received by players and collectors alike for its utility and its status as a top-tier pull, cementing its place as a cornerstone of the Team Magma vs Team Aqua expansion.
