Switch

The Switch card was introduced as part of the Secret Wonders expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which was released in late 2007. As a staple utility item, its purpose within the game is to allow a player to swap their active Pokémon with one from their bench, a core mechanic that has remained a fundamental strategic element since the game's inception in the late 1990s.

The card features an illustration by the longtime artist Ryo Ueda, known for his clean, functional aesthetic that often defined the look of trainer and item cards during this era of the Diamond & Pearl series. Designed to be accessible and easily recognizable, the card serves as a vital component of deck consistency, and while its common rarity ensured its widespread availability to players, its design has been praised for providing a simple, effective visual shorthand for a move that defines the flow of a typical match.
