Where it came from
Released in November 2019 as part of the Sun & Moon: Cosmic Eclipse expansion, this Torkoal card serves as a notable Secret Rare entry within the set. The Cosmic Eclipse series was designed to celebrate the final chapter of the Sun & Moon era, featuring a high density of Character Rare cards that depicted Pokémon alongside their trainers to evoke a stronger sense of narrative and connection.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Naoki Saito, who is widely recognized for a vibrant and expressive style. In this particular piece, Torkoal is depicted in a charming, stylized encounter, emphasizing the warmth and personality of the Fire-type Pokémon. Upon release, the card was well-received by collectors for its distinct aesthetic, which departed from traditional battle-oriented artwork in favor of a more illustrative, character-focused design.
