Where it came from
Torterra ex, released in the 2024 Scarlet & Violet—Temporal Forces expansion, serves as a modern mechanical evolution of the Continent Pokémon originally introduced in the fourth generation. This card was designed to integrate the popular Terastal phenomenon into the trading card game, reflecting the creature's massive defensive capabilities. The artwork emphasizes the tectonic nature of the Pokémon, utilizing the vibrant, high-energy aesthetic consistent with the contemporary era of the game.
The card was illustrated by takuyoa, a prolific artist in the Pokémon TCG scene known for dynamic, textured depictions of creatures. The design focuses on Torterra’s bulk, utilizing the 'Double Rare' foil treatment to highlight the mountainous shell and the leafy details of its forest-like back. Within the competitive community, the card is recognized for its Forest Blast attack, which scales in power based on the number of Grass-type Pokémon on the user's bench, a strategic nod to the collaborative nature of Grass-type decks.
