Provenance

Where it came from

Vivillon, a butterfly-themed Pokémon introduced in the sixth generation, made its Forbidden Light trading card appearance in 2018. The Forbidden Light expansion draws its thematic inspiration from the Kalos region, specifically referencing the narrative arcs of Pokémon X and Y. As a Grass-type card numbered 8/131, this rare specimen captures the intricate, geometric wing patterns that serve as the creature's hallmark, reflecting a design philosophy centered on regional biodiversity and unique evolutionary characteristics.

The artwork for this specific card was executed by illustrator kawayoo, known for their vibrant, stylized approach to digital trading card illustration. By focusing on the creature's delicate wing structure against a simplified, high-contrast background, the artist emphasizes the butterfly's aesthetic complexity. Upon its release, the card was received as a standard but visually striking addition to the set, serving as a functional piece for collectors aiming to complete the regional Pokedex represented within the Forbidden Light expansion.
