Provenance

Where it came from

Released in September 2003 as part of the EX Sandstorm expansion, this Zangoose card marks one of the Pokémon's earliest appearances in the Trading Card Game. The set was designed to introduce the Hoenn region's Pokémon to Western audiences following the release of the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire video games, focusing on the desert-themed environments characteristic of Route 111.

The card features artwork by illustrator Atsuko Nishida, a pivotal figure in the franchise who is also credited with the original character design of Pikachu. Nishida utilized a dynamic, action-oriented style to highlight Zangoose’s feline agility and its thematic rivalry with Seviper. As a Holo-Rare entry in the set, the card was well-regarded by collectors for its clean aesthetic and its utility in colorless-type deck compositions of the era.
