The 6 Concerti Armonici were long attributed to Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, appearing under his name in early eighteenth-century editions. However, it was eventually discovered that the true composer was the Dutch diplomat and amateur musician Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer. Composed between 1725 and 1740, these works reflect a blend of Italian melodic grace and the sophisticated harmonic language of the Dutch musical tradition, emerging from Wassenaer's private musical salons.

This 1980 release by the Philips label features the renowned ensemble I Musici, with Pina Carmirelli providing the solo violin performances. By the time of this recording, the Concerti had undergone a major reappraisal following the discovery of the original manuscripts in the 1970s.
