Where it came from
Acid Test 04 was released in 2011 on the Berlin-based label Absurd Recordings as part of their dedicated Acid Test series. The series was established to explore the nuances and raw energy of acid house, emphasizing the legacy of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer within a contemporary techno framework. It emerged during a period of renewed interest in hardware-driven, minimalist electronic music, providing a platform for artists to showcase technical proficiency through repetitive, hypnotic arrangements.
The record features the work of German producer Holger Zilske, who crafted a sound that balanced classic acid tropes with the crisp, modern production standards typical of the Berlin underground scene. Zilske, already known for his contributions to the electronic music landscape, approached this release with an emphasis on texture and rhythmic progression. The EP was well-received by DJs and critics within the house and techno communities, noted for its functional utility on the dance floor and its adherence to the aesthetic integrity of the label.
