Where it came from
Released in 1972 on the Joker label, Adios Nugoro Amada captures the rich choral traditions of Nuoro, Sardinia. This record serves as a significant document of the Coro di Nuoro, an ensemble dedicated to preserving the distinctive polyphonic singing style known as canto a tenore, which is deeply rooted in the island's pastoral heritage and historical social rituals.
The album reflects a period of heightened interest in Mediterranean folk music and ethnic preservation during the 1970s. The design and production aimed to provide a high-fidelity representation of the choir's vocal techniques, emphasizing the rhythmic and harmonic complexity that characterizes Sardinian folk music. It was well-received within circles dedicated to ethnomusicology for its commitment to the authenticity of the regional repertoire.
