Where it came from
Almrausch Und Edelweiss was released in 1989 on the Tyrolis Music label, a boutique imprint specializing in traditional Alpine, folk, and Volksmusik styles. Produced during a period when the genre maintained a dedicated following across Austria, Bavaria, and South Tyrol, the record serves as a representative artifact of the post-war regional folk revival, capturing the sentimental and cultural aesthetic associated with the mountains.
The album features the work of Holger Stern, a musician deeply embedded in the Austro-Bavarian folk tradition. The design and musical arrangement lean into the classic tropes of the genre, utilizing instrumentation and thematic motifs intended to evoke the pastoral beauty of the Alps. It was received as a standard contribution to the label’s catalog, serving primarily the regional market of listeners who frequented local festivals and communal gatherings.
