B-Boy Breakers

Released in 1984 on the Quality label, B-Boy Breakers emerged during the height of the mid-eighties breakdancing craze that swept through North America. As the subculture transitioned from New York street corners to mainstream media, record labels sought to capitalize on the energy of the movement by releasing compilation albums designed specifically for the rapidly growing community of b-boys and b-girls looking for rhythmic, high-energy music to practice their craft.

The album serves as a period-accurate reflection of the electronic-funk and early hip-hop synthesis that defined the sound of the era. Produced by artists known as Starchild and Disco Bee, the tracks feature the driving drum machines, vocoder effects, and synthesized basslines that characterized early electro music. While these releases were often viewed as utilitarian tools for dancers rather than high-concept studio albums, the collection captures the vibrant, experimental spirit of the formative years of the genre.
