Bir Bakış Baktın / Niçin Baktın Bana Öyle

Released by Tunç Plak in the early 1970s, this 45-rpm single by Aysel Büyüktürkoğlu represents a slice of the Turkish pop and folk-fusion landscape of the era. The label, Tunç Plak, was a significant player in distributing local artists who blended traditional Anatolian melodies with the emerging orchestral arrangements and rhythmic sensibilities of contemporary Turkish pop, a movement often referred to as Anadolu Pop.

Büyüktürkoğlu's delivery on this record captures the melancholic and emotive vocal style prevalent in the music of that period. As a piece of vinyl history, the record serves as a testament to the prolific nature of small independent labels in Istanbul during the 1970s, which provided a platform for regional artists to experiment with lyrical arrangements that bridged the gap between classic folk poetry and modern radio-friendly production.
