Where it came from
Released in 1982 by the Welsh label Recordiau Mynydd Mawr, this record captures the performance of the children's Cymanfa Ganu, or hymn-singing festival, held in anticipation of the 1985 National Eisteddfod of Wales in Swansea. These regional festivals served as vital cultural precursors to the main event, intended to engage local youth in the tradition of congregational singing and Welsh language preservation.
The production features musical direction by Clive Williams and contributions from Davida Lewis, who were central figures in fostering musical education and performance within the Welsh-speaking community at the time. The record stands as a localized document of the era's choral traditions, reflecting the specific regional fervor and community-focused approach to the Eisteddfod circuit during the early 1980s.
