Where it came from
This recording captures a live 1970 performance by the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) Central Coast Section Honor Band and Honor Choir. Such records were typically produced as private pressings or vanity albums, intended primarily for the families of the participating students and the educators involved in the regional music program. These projects served as tangible keepsakes for high-achieving youth musicians during a period when the CMEA was actively fostering collaborative performance opportunities across California schools.
The album reflects the regional archival efforts of the era, where local music educators documented annual honor ensemble performances without the oversight of commercial record labels. As a non-commercial release, it lacks a formal design pedigree or mass-market distribution history, serving instead as a localized cultural artifact. The production values and liner notes were managed by the CMEA coordinators, focusing on documenting the technical proficiency of the selected students rather than aiming for critical reception or widespread circulation.
