Where it came from
Released in 1972 on the CBS label, this record represents a pivotal moment in the career of the Brazilian singer-songwriter Roberto Carlos as he expanded his immense popularity into the Spanish-speaking market. The title track, a haunting ballad adapted from the Italian song 'Un Gatto Nel Blu' by Toto Cutugno, became one of his signature international hits, solidifying his reputation as a master of romantic pop across Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
The album reflects the polished, emotive production style that defined the Latin pop scene of the early 1970s. By bridging Brazilian sentimental music with sophisticated arrangements, Carlos and the CBS production team successfully crafted a sound that resonated deeply with global audiences. The record remains a quintessential artifact of the era, celebrated for its lyrical melancholy and the distinctive, warm vocal delivery that cemented Carlos as a major cultural force in Spanish-language music history.
