Where it came from
Released in 1974 on the Philips label, this children's record features the French-Israeli singer Rika Zaraï narrating the adventures of Tante Agathe. The project was part of a broader cultural trend in 1970s France, where popular vocalists often crossed over into children's storytelling, utilizing their established star power to bring whimsical, educational, or travel-themed narratives to young audiences.
The production relies on the storytelling chemistry between Zaraï and collaborator Régis Dubos. The record explores themes of adventure and cultural discovery through the character of Aunt Agathe, framing a trip to Colombia within a musical and spoken-word format. Like many records in the Philips children's catalog of the era, it was designed with bright, illustrative cover art intended to capture the attention of children in retail spaces, reflecting the label's commitment to immersive audio-visual storytelling for the family market.
