Where it came from
Released in 1983 on the iconic Peruvian label Infopesa, this single represents a snapshot of the regional cumbia and tropical music scene during a transformative era for the industry in Lima. Infopesa, under the direction of Alberto Maraví, was instrumental in documenting and popularizing the sound of chicha and tropical bands that bridged traditional rhythms with the contemporary instrumentation of the early eighties.
The production style reflects the period's preference for driving percussion and rhythmic guitar leads that defined the sound of La Nueva Ilusión. As a release from a prolific label that served as a cornerstone for Peruvian popular music, this record functions as an artifact of the vibrant, dance-oriented recording culture that flourished in Peru before the broader internationalization of tropical music.
