Released in 1963 on the Eurodisc label, this recording brings together two pillars of the Baroque concerto grosso form: George Frideric Handel and Arcangelo Corelli. The selection highlights the evolution of the genre, culminating in Corelli's renowned Concerto Grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8, famously known as the Christmas Concerto. These works were originally composed to showcase the contrast between the small group of soloists, or concertino, and the full ensemble, or ripieno, a hallmark of Baroque orchestral music.

The recording features the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester under the direction of Friedrich Tilegant, a conductor noted for his contributions to the German chamber music tradition during the mid-20th century.
