Released by the French label Erato during the 1970s, this recording captures two of Francis Poulenc's most significant works for solo instruments and orchestra. The Organ Concerto in G minor, completed in 1938, was commissioned by the Princesse Edmond de Polignac, a major patron of the arts who sought a work that blended the solemnity of the organ with the clarity of a chamber ensemble. Its design reflects Poulenc's unique ability to weave together neoclassical restraint and moments of deep, liturgical introspection.

The Concert champêtre, composed earlier in the late 1920s for the harpsichordist Wanda Landowska, was intended to revive the harpsichord as a modern concert instrument. This particular recording features Marie-Claire Alain and Robert Veyron-Lacroix, both of whom were pivotal figures in the mid-century revival of period-conscious performance in France.
