Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1969 by the Electrola label, this commemorative compilation was produced to honor the 90th birthday of the prolific Austrian composer and conductor Robert Stolz. As a key figure in the world of operetta and film music, Stolz enjoyed a career spanning several decades, and this release served as a celebratory tribute to his enduring influence on the European musical landscape, featuring a curated selection of performances by various prominent artists of the era.

The album reflects the classic design aesthetic of late 1960s German orchestral releases, emphasizing formal prestige and historical significance to mark the milestone of a legendary composer. It was designed to appeal to enthusiasts of traditional operetta and light classical music, positioning Stolz as a centerpiece of 20th-century entertainment. While not a chart-topping pop production, it received recognition within the classical and operetta catalog circuits as a definitive retrospective of his work.
