Where it came from
Released in 1986 by the Eufoda label, this record serves as a formal musical documentation of 'De Vlaamse Leeuw,' the official anthem of the Flemish Community. Eufoda, an imprint associated with the Davidsfonds cultural organization, produced this release as part of their mission to archive and promote Flemish cultural heritage, particularly during a period when the Flemish movement sought to solidify its institutional identity following the state reforms in Belgium.
The production reflects a traditional, commemorative approach to the anthem, intended for use in civic and formal gatherings. As an archival recording, it adheres to the established musical arrangement of the piece, which was originally composed by Karel Miry in 1847 with lyrics by Hippoliet Van Peene. The release is valued by collectors of regional history and Belgian folk-political artifacts for its role in preserving the standard pedagogical and ceremonial version of the song.
