Where it came from
Released by the German label Topas, this record serves as an anthology of classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales, including Die Sieben Raben, Dornröschen, Der Wolf und die sieben Geißlein, and Aschenputtel. It emerged during a period in the mid-to-late 20th century when dramatized audio plays, or Hörspiele, became a staple of German childhood, designed to provide affordable entertainment and educational value in the form of spoken-word storytelling.
The production relies on the tradition of voice-acted narratives, a genre that prioritized clear articulation and sound effects to engage young listeners. While specific design credits for the sleeve art of catalog LP 2656 are often uncredited in archives, these releases typically featured whimsical, child-friendly illustrations consistent with the era's aesthetic of storybook-inspired graphic design, aimed at distinguishing the record on retail shelves among similar children's audio compilations.
