Divertimenti (B-dur, KV186 / F-dur, KV253 / Es-Dur KV289 / Adagio B-Dur, KV411)

This recording was released by Philips in the early 1970s as part of a distinguished series dedicated to the wind music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. These Divertimenti were written during the composer's youth, primarily in Salzburg, to fulfill the requirements of court entertainment. They reflect the era's demand for elegant, technically proficient works for small wind ensembles, serving as both background music for social gatherings and sophisticated displays of woodwind counterpoint.

The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, under the refined direction of Edo de Waart, became widely celebrated for their interpretations of these pieces. Their performance style, captured in the warm acoustics of the Philips 6500 003 pressing, is noted for its precision, lighthearted articulation, and deep empathy for the period's stylistic nuances. Critics at the time praised the recording for its clarity and the ensemble’s ability to balance the technical rigor of the score with the expressive, melodic charm central to Mozart’s early wind compositions.
