Provenance

Where it came from

This record is a compilation of classic fairy tales, primarily from the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, released under the Fass label in the mid-1970s. During this era in West Germany, there was a robust market for spoken-word audio productions, as parents sought educational and traditional storytelling entertainment to play for children on home record players.

The album serves as an anthology of German literary heritage, utilizing a production style common to the era’s storytelling records, which relied on professional voice actors and minimalist soundscapes to evoke the atmosphere of the fables. While individual illustrators and performers for such budget-label compilations were rarely credited prominently, these records were produced to provide accessible, affordable access to foundational childhood literature, meeting a consistent demand for classic cultural narratives in a portable and reusable format.
